Gitaar, 7Cordas, Conjunto / Alvaro Rovira Ruiz
Tot 2006 woonde Alvaro in Buenos Aires, Argentinië, waar hij jazz en tango studeerde. Hij speelde tango en andere populaire muziekstijlen op verscheidene podia in het hele land en in Europa. In 2006 begint hij zijn studie latin jazz en Braziliaanse gitaar aan het Rotterdams Conservatorium (Codarts) en studeerde af in juni 2010. Hij is ook de oprichter van de choro groep Choro de Maas, een unieke internationale choroband in Europa!
Cavaquinho / Marijn van der Linden
Marijn van der Linden is geboren op Curaçao in 1981. Vanaf zijn 6e jaar speelt hij gitaar, eerst klassiek, later ook elektrisch. Hij studeerde in 2005 af aan het Fontys Conservatorium te Tilburg in de richting gitaar geïmproviseerde muziek. Marijn speelt in verschillende groepen, waarvoor hij zelf ook componeert en arrangeert. In 2012 heeft hij Escola Portátil de Música Holanda opgericht, een muziekschool/organisatie speciaal gericht op Braziliaanse choro en samba, het eerste filiaal van EPM (Rio de Janeiro) buiten Brazilië.
Cavaquinho en Gitaar / Hassan Ait-Moumad
Hassan is a multi-instrumentalist and producer. He has been on many stages across Europe, West-Africa and the Caribbean. Besides that he is also active as a performer in street theatre arts and as a producer/soundengineer for a small theatre company in The Netherlands.
Born and raised in Rotterdam he was influenced at a young age (in the eighties) by his older brothers and sisters who listened to al sorts of music, but mainly reggae / hip hop / new wave British heavy metal and by his fathers tapes of southern Moroccan folk music.
Hassan plays mainly the electric guitar, electric bass and cavaquinho.
Flute, piano e curso Choro para crianças / Angelo Ursini
Born in Brazil, Angelo Ursini is a composer and multi-instrumentalist (flutes, clarinet and sax). He graduated in 2010 in Popular Music from the UNICAMP, he had courses and attended classes with masters such as Mané Silveira, Vinicius Dorin, Proveta, Alexandre Ribeiro and Paulo Moura, harmony classes with Claudio Leal and Silvia Goes.
Always interested on music from different regions Angelo studied several ethnical flutes like the andeans Quena and Samponha, the indian Bansuri, the Brazilians Pifano and Gaita de Caboclinho among others.
Nowadays Angelo is doing a master on classical composition on Codarts.

Gitaar, 7cordas, / Kees Gelderblom
Kees is geboren in Den Haag, in 1958, Op elf jarige leeftijd koopt hij zijn eerste gitaar van zelf gespaard geld en in 1976 raakt hij in contact met de Braziliaanse muziek (Luíz Bonfá op de radio).
De Braziliaanse gitarist Baden Powell zorgt voor een ommezwaai van 180 graden in het leven van Kees. In 1988 studeert hij af aan het Sweelinck Conservatorium te Amsterdam als docent klassiek gitaar. In de studietijd heeft hij tot 1995 deel uit gemaakt van de Braziliaans formatie TANGA, onder leiding van Paulo Prata (drummer/zanger).
Piano / Elizabeth Fadel
Elizabeth begon de haar pianostudie toen ze 7 was , bij Rosa Mística Music School. Tijdens de studies had ze muziektheorie , perceptie , geschiedenis en instrument lessen . Ze werd lid van de Parana ’s Art College ( FAP ) toen ze 18 was om muziektherapie te studeren . Een jaar later studeerde Elizabeth aan de Escola de Musica e Belas Artes ( EMBAP ) voor Bachelor op piano , waar ze les had van de vermaarde Russische Pianist Olga Kiun.
Ze heeft gewerkt als pianolerares bij FAP en bij het Braziliaanse Conservatorium van de populaire muziek . Elizabeth begon ook te werken als pianist assistent voor de Koralen van de Federale Universiteit van Parana en voor de Tuiuti Universiteit van Parana . Op de leeftijd van 20 , begon ze met het bespelen van de klavecimbel en maakte deel uit van een groep van EMBAP . Elizabeth heeft gespeeld in vele bars , restaurants en ze deed vele concerten in Brazilië , met klassieke en populaire muziek ( Braziliaanse jazz en tango ) . In 2011 nam ze de CD ” Divertimento ” , met de mandoline speler Daniel Migliavacca. Nu woont zij sinds een aantal jaren in Nederland en heeft een masterstudie klavecimbel aan het Koninklijk Conservatorium Den Haag afgerond.
Zang / Magda Mendes
Magda Mendes werd geboren in Lissabon, na de Anjerrevolutie van 1974. Al jong raakte ze in de ban van de traditionele Portugese muziek die ze hoorde bij haar ouders en grootouders. Na haar studie maritieme biologie besloot ze toch haar muzikale hart te volgen en verhuisde ze in 2002 naar Rotterdam om te studeren aan het Conservatorium aldaar.
Ze speelde in verschillende groepen, waarvan Luzazul de meest bekende is.
De laatste jaren zoekt ze meer haar eigen stem. Ze houdt van fado en samba, en zeilt tussen twee werelden die door oceanen worden gescheiden, maar door de muziek worden verbonden. Casa da Bôxa is haar eerste solowerk, met een film en een cd die allebei de naam van haar label dragen. Deze voorstelling ging begin oktober 2013 in première in Lantaarn/Venster. Sinds een jaar brengt ze samen met de gitarist en componist Ward Veenstra de voorstelling Silêncio. Het is een ode aan de Fado, het levenslied uit haar geboortestad Lissabon. Zowel oud als nieuw geschreven en gecomponeerde Fado worden op een rauwe, indringende en verfijnde manier gebracht.
Saxofoon, counterpoint, improvisation and ensemble / Rafael Pereira Lima
Rafael Lima is from Porto Alegre/RS, the southern most capital in Brazil. He started playing the harmonica in the Baptist church at the age of 10 years old and the saxophone at the age of 14 years old. At the age of 16 years old lived one year in USA, there he started to play alto sax in the Meridian Community Jazz Big Band, in the Far Away Places Jazz Combo and in MCC’s Improv Class Band. By the age of 24 years old got his Saxophone Bachelor degree from Institute of Arts of UFRGS. Rafael just finished Masters in Jazz Performance (Netherlands/NYC) at the University of Hanze (When Choro meets Bebop) For two years was professor of saxophone and improvisation at UFPEL.
Rafael started playing Choro in 2000 since there has played with many different artists and groups.
Today Rafael is living and working in Europe, having his residence in Rotterdam/NL.
Rafael is also the Artist Director at Brazilian Music Foundation/NY
Theory in Practice/ Grace Chi
Grace Chi, born in 1983, is a Taiwanese pianist, arranger and composer.
She started playing piano from the age of eight.
Graduated in Bachelor of Latin Piano Performance in Rotterdam Conservatory (Codarts) in 2015, and Master of Film Music Composition in Amsterdam Conservatory (AHK) in 2017.
Her current projects are called “Grace Chi Quintet” and “Abraços do Mar”.

YASMIM FLORES é artista plástica e educadora.
Vive e trabalha entre Holanda e São Paulo, Brasil.
Foi professora do curso “Arte Brasileira para crianças” do Projeto “Parquinho Lage” na Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque Lage do RJ e foi educadora de artes da Escola infantil Casa Redonda Centro de Estudos SP.
Em 2020 participou do maior Festival de música infantil MUSICAR no CCBB de Brasília e CCBB de Belo Horizonte ministrando a oficina “Desenho, Som e Movimento” e durante a pandemia, produziu 6-videos aulas para o canal do youtube do Festival Musicar nas nuvens #CCBBEMCASA.
Ministrou oficina de arte online para crianças através da plataforma Zoom para o MAM Museu de Arte Moderna de SP, continuando a parceria com o educativo da instituição.
Graduada em Artes Plásticas na Fundação Armando Álvares Penteado (FAAP), efetuou complementação de estudos na École Nationale de Beaux-Arts (ENSBA) em Paris, em 2009.
Em 2013 fez o curso de formação a Arte do Brincante para Educadores no Instituto Brincante e Direção de Arte e cinematografia com Vera Hamburger.
Em 2015 se especializou com Segni Mossi – Itália (Laboratório de Dança-Desenho) e Histórias de Boca com Cristiane Velasco no Instituto Brincante.
Em 2020 realizou o Masterclass Creativity com Charles Watson, participou da residência artística em dança com a coreografa Morena , foi convidada e entrevistada pelo projeto C.O.R.P.O e fez o curso “A criança, os cinco sentidos e a educação” com Gandhy Pirovisky.

Juliano Abramovay

Juliano Abramovay is a versatile musician, composer, and researcher with a passion for exploring diverse music traditions. After studying classical guitar at São Paulo’s Municipal School of Music and musicology at University of São Paulo, Juliano delved into fretless guitar and oud, researching traditional music from Greece and Turkey. He obtained his masters at Codarts before proceeding with a PhD research project at Durham University under the supervision of Profs. Martin Clayton and Laura Levante. Currently, Juliano is a teacher at Codarts, where he is actively involved with the Rotterdam Arts and Science Lab (RASL) and with research disciplines.
Juliano’s music projects blend the melodic richness of Eastern Mediterranean traditional music with his Brazilian musical background. Recently, he has created ensemble Amazonon, which has recorded albums in both Brazil and the Netherlands, and Gandhaya, which released its first EP in 2023. Beyond music, Juliano is keen on interdisciplinary collaborations and has extensively composed and performed for dance (with Morena Nascimento), theater (with Martha Kiss), cinema (for Fernando Meirelles), and circus (with Sophia Oltmanns and Michael Zandl). Notably, his recent works include the music direction of LESTE (Casa do Povo, São Paulo) and the soundtrack for the circus-theater performance Sawdust Symphony (Korzo Theatre, Den Haag). He was a Fellow Artis of the 2019 edition of the OneBeat residency (USA).
